Awesome Level 9000: The First Expansion for Smash Up!

SU2-BoxAlderac Enterainment group has just announced through social media that they're releasing their first expansion to Smash Up: Awesome Level 9000. Looks like players will have 4 more factions to choose from in this shuffle builder. The new factions will be Killer Plants, Ghosts, Steampunks and the Bear Cavalry. Aside from the 80 faction cards, there will be 8 new bases, and a rule book in the expansion, although from first glance it doesn't look like there will be much more added to the game rules themselves, just more combos, and maybe the ability to add another player?

You can see AEG's official info about the release right here, and you can read our review of the base set of the game right here.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Make the Kessel Run, December 14-16

kesselrun-shipsA couple of weeks ago we reviewed the fun Star Wars The Miniatures Game from Fantasy Flight. The next wave of minis is scheduled for release in February, but you can check out—and maybe play with—the new minis before then. Fantasy Flight has announced the locations of game stores hosting Kessel Run events. To participate, players bring 100-point squadrons to a participating retailer and compete through a number of Swiss-style preliminary rounds. But in the final round, everything changes. After the close of the preliminary rounds, the tournament’s two top players set aside their personal squads and assume control of preview squads built from the event kits.

One player will field two A-wings and the incomparable Millennium Falcon. The other will field two TIE Interceptors and the versatile and deadly Slave I. Then, each of the tournament’s top four participants get to claim one of the preview expansions!

  • 1st Place – First choice of one of the included preview ships
  • 2nd Place – Second choice of one of the included preview ships
  • 3rd Place – Third choice of one of the included preview ships
  • 4th Place – Fourth choice of one of the included preview ships

Sounds fun! Go play some Star Wars, and thanks for reading!

Like a "Boss Monster" - Kickstarter Weekly

Hey gang, we're rolling in super late in the game on this one, but it's definitely worth checking out! Brotherwise Games is totally crushing their Kickstarter campaign for Boss Monster: the Dungeon-Building Card Game. I mean their over funded by like $145,000, they've got 3 days left on the campaign and if the get $3,000 more in backing, they will have hit every stretch goal they have planned. Here's the cool thing about the campaign, it's super cheap to get in on. To get yourself a copy of the game you'll only have to buy in for $20! Ok, enough about the campaign, let's talk about the game for a minute or two. From what I can tell Boss Monster, is like the Grand Theft Auto of 8-bit side scrolling card games, in a fantasy realm setting... Instead of playing the hero or the adventurer, players take on the role of the main bad dude, and try to create a dungeon to lure as many adventurers in and then slay them. The theme sounds like a geeky good time and most of the cards look pretty silly (in a good way). There's even a surprise visit from our favorite pixelated president Pixel Lincoln!

So you've got a few days left, head on over and check it out, and maybe help them hit that last stretch goal! You can find the campaign right here!

Fantasy Flight Announces the First Force Pack for Star Wars: The Card Game!

It's official, we're excited. And as if the eminent release of Fantasy Flight's Star Wars: The Card Game wasn't enough, they've already announced the first Force Pack for the game. The game's first expansion cycle with be the Hoth Cycle, with the first Force Pack being  "The Desolation of Hoth." It's a little surprising they're jumping ahead in the saga to an Empire theme; I'm chalking it up to Fantasy Flight wanting to start out strong. And I wouldn't be surprised if they have the schedule lined up to continue through and drop them right in line with the upcoming release Episode VII. (There's four words I thought I'd never type!)

Over on the official Fantasy Flight page they are giving some great detail and overview of the pack. You can check it out here!

It's an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan, and a gamer; look out as worlds are about to collide, again!

Lost Legends — Kickstarter Weekly

This week's Kickstarter project comes to us courtesy of Mike Elliott—designer of such great games as Thunderstone and Quarriors...and the far-less-great game Sword & Skull. Lost Legends is a card-drafting game from Queen Games for three to five players. You'll get a hand of cards, and choose one to equip your character or use the cards for new traits and abilities. Then you pass the leftover cards to the next person, and you'll get a batch from the player in front of you. Lather. Rinse. Repeat, until the cards are gone. Then you start kicking some monster butt—or the monsters start kicking yours...

From the Kickstarter description: At the beginning of your turn, if you do not have a monster in front of you, you must encounter a new one.  You can choose to take on the face-up monster in the middle of the table... or you can draw the top card from the monster deck.  If you don’t think it’s a good idea to fight this monster, and another player also does not have a monster in front of them, you can evade that monster and it will attack them.  But, if you do this, you then must take on the next monster from the top of the deck.

The monsters get stronger as you go through the rounds—and after three rounds the game is over. The warrior with the most points, wins.

The project has already blown past its goal, and the stretch goals include gobs of new monsters, and some new heroes, too. It sounds fun—and the artwork is way cool.
