Keyforge - What's a Quadrillion!?

Keyforge - What's a Quadrillion!?

Some of the biggest news to come out of Gen Con is from Fantasy Flight, and one of the biggest, most epic, colossal  names in game design: Richard Garfield. (He designed this little card game called Magic the Gathering, maybe you've heard of it?) The title I'm talking about today is Keyforge. Keyforge: Call of the Archons (to be accurate), is a 1 vs. 1 card game where players are racing to forge keys (get it? Key.... Forge?) that unlock the vaults of an artificial work at the center of the universe... Ok, ok, that’s a paper thin theme, but what's fascinating, mind-blowing, and seemingly near impossible here is the fact that the game features decks, that are completely, 100% unique. As the Fantasy Flight website says "What this means for KeyForge is that every deck in existence is utterly unique and different from every other deck."

Eldritch Horror is Getting an Expansion

EldritchexpFantasy Flight has announced a small expansion for their co-op Lovecraftian game Eldritch Horror, called Forsaken Lore.

The deck of cards adds over 100 new Encounter cards, 20 Condition cards, and 14 new Mysteries.

EH02-YigSheetAccording to the press release:

"Yig’s cultists and the Serpent People make their way across the world, determined to conquer for their master. Savage and sly, these venomous cultists and the serpents under their control unleash a new horror on investigators – a condition called Poisoned. Yig enters the game with six unique mysteries, and your Investigators will need to gather all of their strength and cunning to keep Yig from entering our world. Break the power of the Serpent Crown over the will of the people, and defeat the Winged Serpent Epic Monster in order to world safe once more."

This will hit second quarter of 2014. What are your thoughts on this expansion? Is it too soon after the regular release for your tastes? Should FF have included this in the original box, rather than going for more $? Do you not care about that at all, and JUST WANT MORE EXPANSION GOODNESS? Let us know in the comments.

Fantasy Flight is Bringing Back 1st Edition Descent. Kinda.

DJ26-box-leftA couple of years back, Fantasy Flight decided to reboot their popular dungeon-crawling, RPGing franchise Descent. People who had the 1st edition could still use their monsters and heroes—they just had to track down a copy of the Conversion Kit that Fantasy Flight put out. Well, now they're making it easier to bring those 1st edition items into your 2.0 game.

DJ26-PlasticAccording to their Web site, Fantasy Flight have decided to release Hero and Monster collections. Well, right now it's just one collection, but if this sells well, expect to see more of them.

The first collection, Oath of the Outcast, will have three monster groups and four heroes that were only available in the 1st edition. The baddies are bane spiders, beastmen, and razorwings; and the heroes are Trenloe the Strong, Laurel of Bloodwood, Elder Mok, and Shiver. They're also including two new quests.

These aren't just repackaging of old pieces, though: The art and sculpts are both brand new. They haven't said how much the expansion will cost, but look for it in the 2nd quarter of 2014. We'll give you more information as it becomes available.

Fantasy Flight Releases the Trollfens Expansion for Descent 2.0

Trollfens By Firestone

Fantasy Flight has released another "small" expansion for its hit dungeon-crawler, RPG, board game Descent—this time you'll be taking a trip to the dangerous Trollfens...

The game comes with two new Heroes—Roganna the Shade, and Augur Grisom— and two new Classes—the Stalker and the Healer.

For monsters, you'll see Plague Worms, Harpies, and Bol'Goreth, a huge troll who will get his own miniature in an upcoming Lieutenant Pack.

There are also five new quests that you can add to your campaign, or play as one-offs. Finally, there are some new terrain tiles that add a swampy terrain that can hold both treasures and dangers.

infectiontokensChime in! Have you played Descent? Are you excited for this? Is Fantasy Flight coming out with too many expansions too quickly?
