IOS Sale—Small World 2: 50% Off

SmallWorld2Here at Theology Of Games, we're big fans of the game Small World. And you can now get the iOS version of Small World 2 for a small-er price!

It's only $4.99, down from $9.99.We have no idea how long this will last, so go, go, go!

Just think: For the holidays maybe you travel west, to stay with your in-laws on their uncomfortable "antique"bed (which is code for uncomfortable), and you wake up ridiculously early because of the time change and the uncomfortable bed and because you drank three glasses of egg nog and you REALLY have to pee. Now you'll have something to do while you wait for other people to wake up! You're welcome.

Cyber Monday IOS Board Game Deals

TigrisIOSYa know what's way better than getting up at 3 AM to fight insane crowds for a new crock pot? Sitting on your butt on Monday and getting great deals on board games for your i-device.

Le Havre, Ra, and Tigris & Euphrates are all on sale for $.99. Update: A few more are part of the deal.

  • Le Havre is a less-fun Agricola.
  • Ra is a terrific auction game—especially good with 3 players.
  • T&E is a classic meaty Euro from the brilliant Reiner Knizia. (He also designed Ra.)
  • Tikal is an Action Point game where you're exploring the jungle looking for treasures.
  • Medici, which is another auction game from Reiner Knizia, but not as good as Ra, or as good as Strozzi, but that doesn't have an iOS implementation. So there ya go.
  • A Brief History of the World—I don't know anything about this game, except that it has a really long title with the word brief in it.

Not sure how long they'll last.

Thanks for reading!

Kickstarter Digital: The Manhattan Project

manhattanMinion Games, makers of the new 4x game Hegemonic, and Kingdom Of Solomon, have launched a Kickstarter for a digital version of their game The Manhattan Project.

Neither Jeremiah nor I have played it, so here's the description from the Kickstarter page:

"The Manhattan Project is a low-luck, mostly open information efficiency game in which players compete to build and operate the most effective atomic bomb program. Players will mine yellow cake, train workers, operate factories, use both reactors and enrichment plants, direct espionage against one another, and test The Bomb. Players do not 'nuke’ each other, but they can direct conventional air strikes against the facilities of the other players. The Manhattan Project is a game of Cold War posturing.

This game features the worker-placement mechanic with a twist; There are no rounds and no end-of-round administration. When players run out of workers, or are otherwise forced to by game situations, they skip their turn and retrieve their workers. This allows the game to continue from beginning until end in a round robin fashion. So the game continues round-robin till the end.

Build the best "engine" for creating bomb fuel on your own player board.

Espionage actions allow players to activate and block an opponent's building, representing technology theft and sabotage.

Attack actions send squadrons of planes to bomb the buildings of other players and stop their research until repairs can be made.

Attempt to build the best "engine" for creating bomb fuel on your own player board."

$10 gets you a copy of the game on iPad, Droid, or PC. you can chip in extra to be a beta tester and play the game early.

Stretch goals include Game Center support and included expansions. Check out the campaign. It looks to be the bomb!

Some iOS Board Games on Sale (And Free!)

ghoststoriesBy Firestone So, given a choice, I'm ALWAYS going to choose a face-to-face game over a digital one. In fact, I have some great games on my iPad, but I almost never play them. But I have friends who love playing iOS games, and some people don't have a gaming group, so it's this or nothing. Whatever your circumstance, if you're interested in iOS games, you might want to jump on these deals...

First, we have Ghost Stories. It's a very challenging co-op where you're trying to keep evil spirits from taking over your village. You move around, defeat demons, and use the powers of the townspeople to help you in your quest. And right now it's FREE. You should definitely be aware that it has some occult undertones. There are ghosts and spirits and demons—but you are trying to defeat them, and not use them. There are also some eastern religious concepts in the game, too, such as "chi." So research it on the Geek, or watch a video. Shoot, for that price you can download it, play it, and if it's not for you, delete it!

PuertoRicoThen we have two classic games on sale for $.99 each. First is Puerto Rico, the classic euro that's still near the top of the Boardgamegeek rankings, even after all of these years. And the other is San Juan, the card game spinoff, that is also a terrific game—and a clear inspiration for Race For the Galaxy.

We have no idea how long these prices will last, so jump on them! And then let's play a game together!

Thanks for reading! What do you think about these games? Did the tone/subject of Ghost Stories bother you?

Eclipse is Out on the iPad!

EclipseRacesby Firestone Overnight, the very popular science-fiction conquest game went live on the iPad—it's called Eclipse: New Dawn for the Galaxy. Eclipse is a 4X game—eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. It's made by Big Daddy's Creations, who did a slick job with their iOS version of Neuroshima Hex. By all accounts, this game is just as slick. The price is $6.99—which is much, much cheaper than the physical version. At some point it will almost certainly go on sale (I picked up their Neuroshima Hex game on a sale a year ago). It does have an AI, and it does have pass-and-play and asynchronous multiplayer—and it supports up to six players.

EclipsePlanetsIn addition, it has seven species, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. And there's an in-game tutorial to help you get started.

I've played the physical version, and it's a lot of game. If you like space-conquest games at all, consider checking out Eclipse.
