Kickstarter Weekly - May 1, 2014

Well, it was a close one, but we've made it to May 1st without an unrelenting barrage of Backstreet Boys puns--congratulations, Internet! So, as April showers have brought the promise of May flowers, and their subsequent promise of pilgrims, we take a minute or two to highlight a few choice Kickstarter Campaigns. So... Let's do it!

Featured Campaign

Snitch - Common Man

Snitch pits players against each other as detectives attempting to gather information from a network of snitches. Snitches is a tile placement/pick-up-and-drop-off game of tiles, cubes, and meeples. My first impression from the campaign was that Carcassonne and Great Heartland Hauling had a kid and named it Snitch. I say that in the most positive way I can. I really like both of those games so if Snitch is anything close to either of those, it should be a no brainer!

Block You! - Elwin Kappe

Block You! is a "cool, quick-playing card game that's sure to make you go cross-eyed--okay, I added that last part. The game is played with a 4x4 grid of cards that each have their own 4x4 grid of color blocks on them; each player has 12 cards that are dealt face down. On "GO!" players take one of their cards and try to lay it on the grid matching the colors. First player to go out wins - oh and there are fingers that point to other players that somehow block them and stuff. This one seems like a quick filler that could be some fun - although it may not be entirely colorblind friendly.

Heavy Steam - Greenbrier Games

Heavy Steam is a tactics/warfare game with a lot of resource management thrown into the mix. The resource is power. You'll be diverting power to different systems in your GIANT STEAM-POWERED MECH! Seriously, click the link and check this one out. The mechs look sweet. If you haven't grown weary of the countless steampunk-inspired games--and we haven't--this one is definitely worth looking into. Greenbrier claims the battle system is quick and easy to learn, as well, so no tediously large manuals to dive into on this one!

Pirates! Card Game - Jules Prick

Pirates is a card game in which players.... Well... Do piratey things. Expand their own fleet, capture other ships, gain treasure and wealth--you know how it goes. The cards are all hand-painted and look pretty spiffy, and Jules says he's been developing the game for over 4 years now! Throw in a bunch of custom dice and tokens and you've got a pirate-themed battle game geared for gamers of all ages. This one is already funded and working away at some stretch goals.
